Field Work in Coron and Busuanga after Yolanda

From Nov 16-18 A Million Voices and ASHDA went to Coron and Busuanga to assess the current situation and needs there. During the visit we were able to talk with the only doctor in Coron area, the mayor of Coron and Busuanga, an emergency response team of the government and the local communities.

In Busuanga the damages on school buildings has been totaled to 56 million pesos, of about 800 bankas only 30 remain and the rice crops have been severely damaged. Seeing how fishing and agriculture are among the main industries/livelihoods, as well as tourism, this has a significant long-term effect on the area.

Based on the trip it was decided to provide assistance to Busuanga as soon as possible.
