Sport for Development

The futsal project of AMV started last October 2013. This is in partnership with Kick for G.O.A.L.S. which is an organization composed of various individuals who are dedicated to the promotion of futsal in the Philippines. The program is headed by Xarex Velasquez and Deone Dasallas. The first session was conducted in Dakota court just across the Manila Zoo. Currently, the regular practices are held at the gymnasium of the Philippine Normal University.

In order to play futsal, only a few players are needed to start a game and this can be played almost anywhere, even on the streets. The aim of the program is not just focused on teaching the basics of the sport but to help build self-confidence and cameraderie amongst the scholars. Through futsal they can learn the importance of working together and helping each other to achieve a common goal. This will also give them an opportunity to gain scholarships to study in different universities if they excel in this sport.

The children will have their first tournament this coming March and hopefully they will be prepared to face opponents coming from different schools and clubs. The AMV scholars are very excited to show the talents and skills they acquired from the training sessions that they had these past few months.
