[Project]: COMPLETED LIVELIHOOD IN "MEAT PROCESSING"

We are proud to announce that seven of our scholar parents have attended and completed a livelihood course in "Meat Processing". During the course - which lasted from January until March - the participants learned about meat and fish preparation, costing, and sales. The course was led by Professor Lorena Castro of PNU, whom we are grateful for initiating the course. The livelihood participants also attended a mini-seminar on "Business Set-Up" in order to fully being able to utilize their newly acquired skills in income generating activities.

This is also why the participants this coming Saturday will be receiving their own start-up package - to further assist them in securing a steady income. The packages will consist of cooking utensils and ingredients, and the participants will continue to attend weekly evaluation meetings to further steer the business ventures in the direction towards success.

Congratulations to Mrs Buslon, Mrs Cabaltierra, Mrs Catalo, Mrs Mansuelto, Mrs Dela Pena, Mrs Su-Ay and Mrs Vecina!

[Donation]: UTFLUKT TIL DYREHAGE

[Donation]: EMERGENCY PACKAGE FOR FIRE VICTIMS

On April 17 - Tuesday last week - a vicious fire struck two buildings in one of the side streets in Ermita, Manila. Fortunately no lives were lost and no injuries reported, but in the aftermath of the fire more than 120 families were left homeless.

Together with other local organizations, A Million Voices assisted in providing emergency relief goods to those struck by the fire in the days following the tragedy. We managed to form a package containing noodles & rice, soap, washing cloth and - most importantly - a sleeping matt.

As the emergency called for a swift response, there was no time to wait for donations at the time of the fire. But for those who would want to, it is now possible to sponsor one or more of the in total 117 packages that were distributed. All donors may receive a photo of the recipient(s), but this is optional.

One package has a total cost of NOK 40 or USD 7.

Much thanks to the agency's donation in 2010 the scholarship program of A Million Voices was able to expand to ensure that even a greater number of children would get access to basic education. [Project]: SPECIAL AMV VISITORS IN MANILA

As part of its scholarship program, some of the scholarship students have their very own tita/tito, or as it would be called in English "aunt/uncle". The titas or titos are key players in the scholarship support for the students and they often have the chance to communicate with the students through letters.

Occasionally titas/titos visit the Philippines and also takes the time to meet their scholarship student. This March, as many as three students were able to meet the people who generously supports their schooling. One of these met none other than the Mayor of Arendal, Mrs. Torill Larsen. Mrs. Larsen was on a personal visit to the country, but did not hesitate to pay a visit to the AMV office to meet her scholarship student.

During the visit all the scholar students had their own presentations about the Philippines and different topics special to the country. In addition the ladies of the baking course showed the visitors how to bake cocoroons. In their very own ways they managed to bring forward the essence of the Philippine culture.

Also, during the visit of another tito the scholarship students were in for a treat to the local amusement park. It was a fun-filled day for all of them and a special celebration of their good school work and last days of school before the summer vacation.
